Zoë Fitzherbert
Soprano Zoë Fitzherbert made her professional operatic debut in 2022 as the Spirit of Aurora in The Call of Aurora by Joe Bugden for the Australian Antarctic Festival. In 2023 she created the role of Princess Diana in the world premiere production of Thomas Rimes’ mock-baroque comic opera, Annus Horribilis, "eliciting great hilarity from the thoroughly engaged audience."
In 2022, Zoë was soprano soloist in the world premieres of two further works: Andrew Ford’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis with the St David’s Cathedral Choir, Hobart; and Thomas Rimes’ Echoes of Van Diemen’s Land, commissioned by the Royal Society of Tasmania and performed in Government House, Hobart, with an ensemble of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and saxophonist Jabra Latham.
Combining versatility with "her natural buoyancy and captivating performance", Zoë is a regular vocalist with big bands and jazz ensembles. She also has twenty years’ experience as both chorister and soloist with the St David’s Cathedral Choir, Münchener Bach-Chor and Sydneian Bach Choir, among others, with whom she has performed, toured and recorded around Europe and Australia.
For her rather delayed arrival in the world of opera, Zoë has a 15-year career as an architect, visual artist and tertiary educator of art, design and architectural history in Australia and Germany to thank.
